Lehmann prevents Liverpool rout!
Well that went just about as well as I'd feared! With Pires, Fabregas, Gilberto & Ljungberg in midfield Arsenal had no bite at all. They had no way to win the ball back when they lost possetion. Flamini at left-back was suicidal too, talk about lost! Lehmann played what was probably his best game since joining the Gunners. He made about 3 suberb saves in the first half including a penalty save from Gerrard. Same again in the 2nd half. Sadly his save on the 87th minute wasn't enough and Luis Garcia was first to the rebound to give Liverpool the win.
Unsurprisingly Wenger has now conceded that top two is beyond our grasp. The problem is that if he keeps playing such a soft team away from home then 4th will be out of reach too! Diaby should have been in the middle with Gilberto. Fabregas should have been on the right with Ljungberg playing on the left. Pires is a spent force and should not start away from home. A stronger midfield would have meant less pressure on Flamini at left-back. Surely Eboue, Djourou, Toure & Senderos would have been a stronger read guard.
Next up Real Madrid who beat Zaragoza 4-0 last night but lost 6-5 on aggregate.
